Valentines Day can best be described in a song. Local Upper Lake singer/songwriter John Paul Hodge has written a song that should be the national anthem for Valentines Day. It’s called “Smoochie Song”. Look it up on Youtube. Give it a listen. Then try telling me that I’m wrong... As we all practice our puckers for this coming weekend, just know that there’s lots of Valentine’s Day live music events scheduled in Lake County starting Friday. Check it out!...

On Tuesday, (tonight) at The Blue Wing Saloonin Upper Lake, Paul Farley will be the featured musician from 6 to 8:00. On Friday a special Valentine’s Day Supper will feature the Majide Trio from 6 to 8:00. Best to make reservations… Love is in the air… (and more BW Saloon scheduled music later in this guide…).

The Moose Lodge in Clearlake Oaks for Wimpy Burger Wednesdayexpect Chris Grant to be entertaining while Wimpy Burgers are being devoured. Chris’s repertoire ranges from Johnny Cash to Jackson 5 and all sorts of good stuff in between. If you’ve never seen Chris, I think you’ll like him. Music and burgers are from 5 to 7:00. Drinx Bar and Grill, (the D-Bag) in Lakeport will feature on Thursday the outstanding music of Cowboy Johnson and Chris Rovetti from 8 to 10:00. These two guys playing acoustic guitar and fiddle could get a room full of living statues a movin’ an’ a shakin! Believe you me!… But you don’t have to be a living statue to enjoy their music. On Friday late afternoon there’s a special Valentine’s Day Dinner in the Manzanita Dining Room of Twin Pine Casinofeaturing music from none other than David Neft from 4 to 8:30. On Friday and Saturday nights in the Grapevine Bar expect Uptown to be playing dance hits from the 70’s from 9 to 1:30. Fall in love while shakin’ your groove thang…

The new Saw Shop Public House in Kelseyville will celebrate Valentines Day, (Friday), with an excellent menu and singer extraordinaire, Tony Neves, performing for your dining pleasure from 6 to 9:00. I’ve heard some of their new desserts can make you easily fall in love. Bring somebody special, just in case…

The Smiling Dogs Tasting Room in Kelseyville will host a Valentine’s Night of music with Cowboy Johnson and Chris Rovetti from 6:30 to 9:30. Rose’s are pink, Reds are purple, enjoy the music and a wine you can slurple… (okay, I’m no Wadsworth, Shelly or Keats…)

Hopper’s Corner in Potter Valley will host a Valentine’s Dance Party with The Mark Weston Band starting about 8:30. Nice bar, good band, excellent excuse to make smoochie woochie…

At the Little Lake Grange in Willits there’s gonna be a Valentine’s Day Dance Party featuring recording Blues artist Tommy Castro from 6 to 10:00. Cost will be $30. A night of soft kisses and rockin’ Blues. This’ll be well worth the drive.

Robinsons Rancheria Lounge in Nice will feature on Friday, Gotcha Covered from 9 to 1:00. This Central Valley band plays music that “speaks to fans across the musical spectrum”. ‘nuff said… On Saturday everybody’s favorite band, Decades are back at the Lounge from 9 to 1:00. Their Valentine’s card would read, “2 good 2 be 4 real”…

On Saturday from noon until 3:00, Six Sigma Ranch and Winery will host a Rose’s and Reds Sweetheart’s Lunch featuring the music of Justin Brown. Cost is $75 for members, $85 for guests. Most of what they serve was grown on the ranch. Take a date – what better way to say, “Be Mine”…

The Soper-Reese Theater will present on Saturday, Trois Bois, (no Mojo, not Troy’s Boys…), from 7 to 11:00. This will be a woodwind trio featuring an Oboe, Bassoon and Clarinet playing selected Madrigals and Pastorales. Madrigals are songs of love, (for all those madrigals and madriguys out there…). Cost will be $20 with open seating.

Saturday evening at O’Meara Bros Brewing Co in Lakeport, Cowboy Johnson and Chris Rovetti will be playing from 6 to 9:00. It’s a good night to fall in love, especially with one of the O’Bros excellent handcrafted beers and ales. Smooch Smooch!…

The Riviera Hills Lounge on Saturday will feature my band, Dr. Groove from 7 to 11:00. After the R&B, Blues, Soul and Funk from the doctor, you’ll come back and ask for just one more kiss…

The Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake will present for their Sunday Brunch, Rosie and Me from 11 to 2:30. For Sunday’s $25 Special Supper, The Majide Trio will be back from 6 to 8:00. For Monday Blues, The Ben Rice Band comes to town from 6:30 to 9:30. For Tuesday Supper, Sheridan Malone will be playing from 6 to 8:00. Love will be in the air… As always, it’s a good idea to make reservations…

On Sunday evening at The Loch Lomand Roadhouse there’s gonna be another Open Mic with yours truly, Mike Guarniero hosting from 6 to 9:00. All acoustic musicians are welcome. Good food, full bar and really good performers. All you need is love...

Karaoke Korner: On Wednesday, Drinx Bar and Grill in Lakeport will hand out the Mics starting at 8:30. On Fridayin Redwood Valley, McCarty’s Bar will host a Valentine’s Day Karaoke Night. Call for times… On Saturday at The Barn, Host Billy Kidd will be the KJ starting at 8:00. The Riviera Hills Lounge and Grand Slam Karaoke will be spinning the CD+G’s on Sunday from 5 to 9:00. There’s lots of love songs to choose from…

There’s a quote from the poet, Rumi, who said, “Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere. They’re in each other all along”. There have been times when it seemed like nothing else could be more true.
